Why Choose CHEMetrics Chemets kits?

CHEMetrics Chemets self-filing reagent ampoules are a great way to test for dissolved substances in liquids. These visual test kits allow you to obtain results by measuring the color of the sample according to the color comparators provided with the kit. This unique method allows you to attain results quickly and accurately with minimal contact with potentially hazardous materials.

Safe and Reliable Results:

While traditional methods often require multiple steps and thorough preparation, these test kits allow you to obtain dependable results with a few simple steps. By simplifying the testing method, Chemets test kits reduce the potential for operator error. Additionally, each of the ampoules contained in the test kits is vacuum sealed which helps eliminate the problem of obtaining inaccurate results from stale or unstable reagents. These reagents are stored right in the tip of each ampoule and sealed in glass, thereby minimizing direct contact with the chemicals.

Method:

The K-6905 Nitrate Kit was designed to accurately measure the levels of Nitrate in water from 0-3.4 ppm. K-6905 uses the Zinc Reduction Method. Nitrate is reduced to nitrite using zinc as the reducing agent. The resulting nitrite concentration is then determined colorimetrically. This method is applicable to industrial wastewaters, drinking, and surface waters. These test kits can also be used for the analysis of seawater. This method will measure nitrate in the presence of low levels of nitrite (by difference). Results are expressed as ppm (mg/L) NO3-N.

Nitrate is the most completely oxidized form of nitrogen. It is formed during the final stages of biological decomposition, either in wastewater treatment facilities or in natural water supplies. Low-level nitrate concentrations may be present in natural waters. However, a Maximum Contaminant Level of 10 ppm nitrate-nitrogen has been established for drinking water by the USEPA.

Shelf-life: The refill and color comparator contained in this kit have shelf-lives of 12 months

1. Fill the reaction tube to the 15 mL mark with the sample to be tested.  2. Empty the contents of one Zinc Foil Pack into the reaction tube. Cap the reaction tube and shake it vigorously for exactly 3 minutes.
3. Add 10 drops of Acidifier Solution to the empty 25 mL sample cup. 4. Pour the treated sample from the reaction tube into the 25 mL sample cup, being careful not to transfer any zinc to the sample cup.
5. Place the ampoule tip-first into the sample cup. Snap the tip and the ampoule will automatically fill. 6. To mix the ampoule, tilt it from side to side, allowing the bubble to travel from end to end.
7. Dry the ampoule and wait 10 minutes for color development. 8. To obtain results, place the ampoule between the color standards, moving it along the comparator until you can determine the closest match.
