This test kit uses the Azo Dye Formation Method to detect nitrite levels. In an acidic solution, nitrite reacts with a primary aromatic amine, then couples with another organic molecule to form a highly colored azo dye. Step-by-Step Testing Procedure
- Attach a pipette tip to the MiniPet® pipettor and draw a sample.
- Dispense the sample into the empty sample cup.
- Dilute to 25 mL with distilled water.
- Add the following solutions in order:
- 5 drops of S-1404 Stabilizer
- 5 drops of S-1405 Catalyzer (Green)
- 5 drops of S-1406 Activator (Blue)
- Immediately snap the tip of the CHEMets® ampoule inside the sample cup. The ampoule will fill, leaving a bubble for mixing.
- Invert the ampoule several times to mix, then dry it.
- Wait 5 minutes before matching the color of the ampoule to the color comparator for a result.
For higher concentrations (0-10,000 ppm), pre-dilution steps are required using the provided syringe and distilled water.
