K-9903 Zinc

K-9903 Zinc Vacu-vials Kit was designed to obtain Zinc levels from 0-3.00 ppm

Zinc Information

This kit requires the use of a CHEMetrics Direct-Readout Photometer or a spectrophotometer capable of accepting a 13 mm diameter round cell. Instrument sold separately.

Why Choose Vacu-vials?

CHEMetrics Vacu-vials self-filling ampoules are a great way to test for dissolved substances in liquid. Unlike our visual test kits, the Vacu-vials test kit allows you to obtain an instrumental result using the CHEMetrics Direct-Redout Photometers or any spectrophotometer capable of accepting a 13m diameter round cell. When using equipment from another manufacturer, set the spectrophotometer to absorbance mode, select the wavelength specified by the Vacu-vials kit instructions, and follow the test procedure. The K-9903 Zinc Kit was designed to accurately measure the levels of Zinc in water from 0-3.00 ppm.

Safe and Reliable Results

While traditional methods often require multiple steps and thorough preparation, these test kits allow you to obtain dependable results with a few simple steps. By simplifying the testing method, Vacuvials test kits reduce the potential for operator error. Additionally, each of the ampoules contained in the test kits is vacuum sealed which helps eliminate the problem of obtaining inaccurate results from stale or unstable reagents. These reagents are stored right in the tip of each ampoule and sealed in glass, thereby minimizing direct contact with the chemicals.

What's included:

  • 30 self-filling Ampoules
  • 25 mL Sample Cup
  • Indicator Solution
  • Ampoule Blank
  • Instruction Manual

Method

The K-9903 uses the Zincon Method. CHEMetrics' method determines soluble zinc in drinking water and wastewater. Zinc reacts with the reagent zincon in a buffered alkaline solution to form a blue complex. Interference from other heavy metals can be eliminated by the addition of cyanide. However, for safety, cyanide has not been included in the reagent formulation. Results are expressed as ppm (mg/L) Zn.

Zinc deposits are present in much of the earth's crust. The metal provides an effective protective coating for steel (galvanized coatings) and is useful as an alloying agent. Zinc salts are useful as corrosion inhibitors in cooling water treatment formulations. The USEPA has established a Maximum Secondary Drinking Water Standard of 5 mg/L for zinc.

How to use:

1. Fill the sample cup to the 25 mL mark with the sample to be tested. 2. Add 8 drops of the Indicator Solution. Stir to mix the contents of the cup.
3. Place the Vacu-vial ampoule tip-first into the sample cup. Snap the tip and the ampoule will automatically fill. 4. To mix the ampoule, tilt it from side to side, allowing the bubble to travel from end to end.
5. Dry the ampoule and wait 1 minute for color development. 6. Insert the Vacu-vial ampoule into the photometer, flat end first, and obtain a reading in ppm.
