Details

The K-1510A Ammonia Kit was designed to accurately measure the levels of Ammonia in water from 0-60 ppm and 60-600 ppm. K-1510 A uses the Direct Nesserlization Method. The test kits employing the well-established Nessler reagent* to determine ammonia concentrations are applicable to drinking water, clean surface water, good-quality nitrified wastewater effluent, and seawater. In some waters, calcium and magnesium concentrations can cause cloudiness of the reagent. Adding a few drops of stabilizer solution (Rochelle Salt) will prevent this cloudiness. References recommend distilling samples prior to analysis. Results are expressed as ppm (mg/L) ammonia-nitrogen, NH3-N.

Shelf-life: although the Nessler reagent is stable, its high alkali content attacks the glass ampoule. The resulting precipitate interferes with color comparison. We recommend stocking quantities of CHEMets® and VACUettes® ampoules that will be used within five months. A two-month supply of Vacu-vials ampoules is suggested. Refrigeration will dramatically extend the shelf-life of these products.

How to use:

  1. Fill the micro-test tube halfway with water sample
  2. Fill to the dilutor snapper cup to the specific mark with distilled water.Fill the sample cup to 25ml 


  3. Ensure the VACUette tip is firmly attached to ampoule tip. Holding the VACUette horizontally, touch the tip to the contents of the micro-test tube.
  4. Place the VACUette between the vertical tip guides on the inside of the dilutor snapper cup. Snap the ampoule tip.
  5. Mix ampoule by inverting several timesTip the vacu-vial back and forth to mix
  6. Dry the ampoule, and wait 1 minute for color development.
    Dry vacu-vial and then insert into the I-2019
  7. Obtain results by placing ampoule between color standards until best color match is found.
