Description / CL-6587 Dissolved O3 Sensor with Flowcell
CL 6587 Dissolved Ozone Monitor:
The CL-6587 Dissolved Ozone Meter provides accurate, consistent and reliable ozone monitoring and control for aqueous ozone applications. The CL-6587 includes two user settable relay outputs and a 4-20 mA output scaled to the dissolved ozone sensor range.
Measurement Range:
- 0-200 ppb (1 ppb resolution)
- 0-2.00 ppm (0.01 ppm resolution)
- 0-20.0 ppm (0.1 ppm resolution)
- 0-200 ppm (1 ppm resolution)
All ranges are user settable with display panel on the CL-6587
Potentiostatic Sensor:
The potentiostatic method is an “amperometric” measurement used to measure ozone in water with constant potential, made through 2 metal electrodes and a reference electrode submerged in the sample water.
The electric current from the sensor consumes Ozone in the sample water, therefore sample water must be renewed at all times. The CL-6587 implements a flow cell to ensure a constant and consistant water flow past the ozone sensor to ensure the ozone sensor is exposed to new water containing ozone. This allows for accurate ozone measurement in water regardless of the process conditions on the actual ozone water system process.
Traditional amperometric measurements do not maintain a constant relationship between cell current and Ozone concentration, especially near zero because of the ORP and liquid resistance effects. As result frequent zero and sensitivity calibration are needed.
In the potentiostatic measurement principle implemented by the CL-6587, the electrodes potential is electronically controlled in relation to the water, providing a linear relationship current/concentration and a very stable zero value.
Sensor Flowcell:
The potentiostatic ozone sensor requires a consistant flow of water containing ozone for accurate measurements. The overflow sensor flowcell ensure a consistent flow of water past the sensor to achieve the most accurate ozone measurements.
Using an overflow design water pressures on the sensor remain consistent . Water flows to drain from the sensor flowcell.
Water flows of 2.6 – 8 gallons per hour must flow past the sensor to drain.
The ozone sensor is supplied with a cable length of ~10 feet (3 meters). This allows the sensor and flowcell to be located up to 10 feet away from the monitor. Water sample can be plumbed via ¼” OD Teflon tubing up to 30 feet. This allows great flexibility in mounting of the ozone monitor, sensor, and sample port.

Optional Temperature Probe:
A temperature probe can be added to the water sample flow cell to measure water temperature simultaneously with dissolved ozone levels. Water temperature will be displayed real-time on the CL-6587 display along with dissolved ozone levels.
Calibration:
The CL-6587 Dissolved Ozone Sensors must be calibrated on-site with the customers' water in process. As pressure and water flow will affect the calibration it is important to perform the calibration in the specific process the sensor will be used to measure ozone in.
Calibration frequency will depend upon ozone concentration in the water and water quality. The Potentiostatic measurement principle used by the CL-6587 maintain accurate span and readings long-term in high ozone levels very well. however, the zero must be verified frequently when used for low ozone readings. Expect calibration frequencies ranging from daily for poor water quality and/or low ozone level measurements to monthly for clean water and ozone level readings greater than 1 ppm.
There are no consumable parts on the dissolved ozone sensor used with the CL-6587.
Calibration should be performed with a colorimetric dissolved ozone test kit. Below are a few kits we suggest and the potential applications for each.
I-2022 SAM Dissolved Ozone Meter
Best for low level detection of ozone, below 0.75 ppm
I-2019 SAM Dissolved Ozone Meter
Best for high level detection of ozone, direct read to 5.0 ppm
