Why Choose CHEMetrics Chemets kits?

CHEMetrics Chemets self-filing reagent ampoules are a great way to test for dissolved substances in liquids. These visual test kits allow you to obtain results by measuring the color of the sample according to the color comparators provided with the kit. This unique method allows you to attain results quickly and accurately with minimal contact with potentially hazardous materials.

Safe and Reliable Results:

While traditional methods often require multiple steps and thorough preparation, these test kits allow you to obtain dependable results with a few simple steps. By simplifying the testing method, Chemets test kits reduce the potential for operator error. Additionally, each of the ampoules contained in the test kits is vacuum sealed which helps eliminate the problem of obtaining inaccurate results from stale or unstable reagents. These reagents are stored right in the tip of each ampoule and sealed in glass, thereby minimizing direct contact with the chemicals.

Method:

The K-7870 Persulfate Kit was designed to accurately measure the levels of Persulfate in water from 0-5.6 ppm and 7-70 ppm. K-7870 uses the Ferric Thiocyanate Method. CHEMetrics' persulfate test kit employs the ferric thiocyanate method. In an acidic solution, persulfate osidizes ferrous iron. The resulting ferric ion reacts with ammonium thiocyanate to form ferric thiocyanate, a red-orange colored complex, in direct proportion to the persulfate concentration. Chlorine does not interfere with this chemistry. Ferric iron, hydrogen peroxide, and ozone will interfere. Results are expressed in ppm (mg/L) sodium persulfate (Na2S2O8).

Persulfate is a strong oxidizer that is commonly used for clarifying swimming pools and spas and for the destruction of a broad range of soil and groundwater contaminants. Sodium persulfate is frequently used for environmental applications.

1. Fill the sample cup to the 25 mL mark with the sample to be tested. 2. Place the ampoule tip-first into the sample cup. Snap the tip and the ampoule will automatically fill.
3. To mix the ampoule, tilt it from side to side, allowing the bubble to travel from end to end. 4. Dry the ampoule and wait 1 1/2 minutes for color development.
5. Place the ampoule into the center of the round comparator and hold it toward a source of light, viewing from the bottom. Rotate the comparator until the color below the ampoule shows the closest match. 6. For higher concentrations, use the flat comparator. Place the ampoule between the color standards, moving it along the comparator until you can determine the closest match.
