Why Choose Vacu-vials?

CHEMetrics Vacu-vials self-filling ampoules are a great way to test for dissolved substances in liquid. Unlike our visual test kits, the Vacu-vials test kit allows you to obtain an instrumental result using the CHEMetrics Direct-Redout Photometers or any spectrophotometer capable of accepting a 13m diameter round cell. When using equipment from another manufacturer, set the spectrophotometer to absorbance mode, select the wavelength specified by the Vacu-vials kit instructions, and follow the test procedure. The K-9003 Silica Kit was designed to accurately measure the levels of Silica in water from 0-10.00 ppm.

Safe and Reliable Results:

While traditional methods often require multiple steps and thorough preparation, these test kits allow you to obtain dependable results with a few simple steps. By simplifying the testing method, Vacuvials test kits reduce the potential for operator error. Additionally, each of the ampoules contained in the test kits is vacuum sealed which helps eliminate the problem of obtaining inaccurate results from stale or unstable reagents. These reagents are stored right in the tip of each ampoule and sealed in glass, thereby minimizing direct contact with the chemicals.

What's Included:

     -30 self-filling Ampoules

     -1 25 mL Sample Cup

     -Neutralizer Solution

     -Activator Solution

     -Ampoule Blank

     -Instruction Manual

Method:

The K-9003 uses the Heteropoly Blue Method. CHEMetrics' test method determines molybdate reactive silica. The heteropoly blue chemistry is employed. Silica reacts with ammonium molybdate under acidic conditions to produce heteropoly acids, which are then reduced to form a blue color. Phosphate interferences are masked with the addition of citric acid. Results are expressed as ppm (mg/L) SiO2.

Silica (SiO2) is the oxide of silicon, the second most abundant element in the earth's crust. Silica is present as silicates in most natural waters. Typical concentrations lie between 1 and 30 mg/L. Higher concentrations may exist in brackish waters and brines. The silica content of water should be determined prior to its use in a variety of industrial applications. Silica can form a harmful scale on equipment and heat transfer surfaces, particularly steam turbine blades.

How to Use:

1. Fill the sample cup to the 15 mL mark with the sample to be tested. 2. Add 10 drops of the Activator Solution. Cap the sample cup and shake it to mix the contents. Wait 4 minutes add 5 drops of Neutralizer Solution. Cap the sample cut and shake it to mix the contents. Wait 1 minute.
3. Place the Vacu-vial ampoule tip-first into the sample cup. Snap the tip and the ampoule will automatically fill. 4. To mix the ampoule, tilt it from side to side, allowing the bubble to travel from end to end.
5. Dry the ampoule and wait 2 minutes for color development. 6. Insert the Vacu-vial ampoule into the photometer, flat end first, and obtain a reading in ppm.
