How It Works:
1. Prepare the Sample
Fill the sample cup to the 25 mL mark with the water sample. Add 2 drops of Stabilizer Solution and stir.
2. Fill the Ampoule
Place the ampoule tip-first into the sample cup. Snap the tip to fill the ampoule automatically.
3. Mix
Gently tilt the ampoule from side to side to mix.
4. Develop
Dry the ampoule and wait 1 minute for the color to develop.
5. Compare
Place the ampoule into the round comparator and view it toward a light source. Rotate the comparator to find the closest color match.
6. For Higher Concentrations
Use the flat comparator to match the color by placing the ampoule between the high-range standards.
Important Notes on Method and Storage
- The Direct Nesslerization Method is suitable for high-quality water samples. For hard waters, Rochelle Salt stabilizer prevents cloudiness caused by calcium and magnesium.
- Results are measured in ppm (mg/L) ammonia-nitrogen (NH₃-N).
- While the Nessler reagent is stable, its high alkalinity can degrade glass over time. To avoid this, we recommend using ampoules within five months of purchase—or refrigerating them to extend shelf life.
