K-1510 Ammonia Test Kit: Fast, Accurate Water Testing with CHEMetrics Chemets

Monitoring ammonia levels in water doesn’t need to be complicated—or risky. The K-1510 Ammonia Test Kit by CHEMetrics provides an easy, accurate, and safer way to detect ammonia concentrations in water, covering two ranges: 0–1 ppm and 1–10 ppm. Whether you’re analyzing drinking water, wastewater effluent, or seawater, the K-1510 is designed to deliver dependable results with minimal preparation and operator contact with chemicals.

Why Choose the CHEMetrics Chemets K-1510 Kit?

The K-1510 kit uses self-filling reagent ampoules based on the Direct Nesslerization Method, a trusted approach for ammonia detection in clean water samples. The method minimizes the steps required for testing and ensures clear, visual results using color comparators.

Benefits of Chemets Kits:

  • Quick and accurate results with minimal operator interaction
  • Self-contained vacuum-sealed ampoules prevent exposure to unstable or stale reagents
  • Low risk of error due to simplified procedure and color-based comparison
  • Safe design: sealed glass ampoules eliminate direct contact with testing chemicals

What’s Included in the K-1510 Kit:

  • 30 self-filling ampoules for ammonia testing
  • Low- and high-range color comparators
  • 25 mL sample cup
  • Stabilizer solution (Rochelle Salt) to prevent reagent cloudiness
  • 1 mL syringe for precise handling
  • Instruction manual for step-by-step guidance

How It Works:

1. Prepare the Sample
Fill the sample cup to the 25 mL mark with the water sample. Add 2 drops of Stabilizer Solution and stir.

2. Fill the Ampoule
Place the ampoule tip-first into the sample cup. Snap the tip to fill the ampoule automatically.

3. Mix
Gently tilt the ampoule from side to side to mix.

4. Develop
Dry the ampoule and wait 1 minute for the color to develop.

5. Compare
Place the ampoule into the round comparator and view it toward a light source. Rotate the comparator to find the closest color match.

6. For Higher Concentrations
Use the flat comparator to match the color by placing the ampoule between the high-range standards.

Important Notes on Method and Storage

  • The Direct Nesslerization Method is suitable for high-quality water samples. For hard waters, Rochelle Salt stabilizer prevents cloudiness caused by calcium and magnesium.
  • Results are measured in ppm (mg/L) ammonia-nitrogen (NH₃-N).
  • While the Nessler reagent is stable, its high alkalinity can degrade glass over time. To avoid this, we recommend using ampoules within five months of purchase—or refrigerating them to extend shelf life.
  • References suggest distilling samples for improved accuracy in certain conditions.
