The K-7004 Nitrite Kit was designed to accurately measure the levels of Nitrite in water from 0-2.5 ppm. K-7004 uses the Azo Dye Formation Method. Nitrite diazotizes with a primary aromatic amine in an acidic solution to produce a highly colored azo dye. The intensity of the color is directly proportional to the concentration of nitrite in the sample. Nitrate will not interfere. Results are expressed as ppm (mg/L) NO2-N.
Nitrite, an intermediate in the nitrogen cycle, is formed during the decomposition of organic matter but readily oxidizes to form nitrate. These processes occur in wastewater treatment plants, water distribution systems, and natural waters. Nitrites are useful as corrosion inhibitors, preservatives, pigments, and in manufacturing many organic preservative chemicals. A Maximum Contaminant Level of 1 mg/L has been established by the USEPA for nitrite-nitrogen in drinking water.
Shelf-life: The refill and color comparator contained in this kit have shelf-lives of 12 months
|1. Fill the sample cup to the 25 mL mark with the sample to be tested. Add 2 drops of Stabilizer Solution. Stir to mix the contents of the cup.||2. Place the ampoule tip-first into the sample cup. Snap the tip and the ampoule will automatically fill.|
|3. To mix the ampoule, tilt it from side to side, allowing the bubble to travel from end to end.||4. Dry the ampoule.|
|5. Wait 10 minutes for color development.||6. To obtain results, place the ampoule between the color standards, moving it along the comparator until you can determine the closest match.|
