K-1513

K-1513 Ammonia Vacu-Vials Kit is used to determine Ammonia levels from 0-10.00 ppm and 0-150 ppm.

This kit requires the use of a CHEMetrics Direct-Readout Photometer or a spectrophotometer capable of accepting a 13 mm diameter round cell. Instrament sold seperately.

Seawater analysis requires A-1503 Accessory Solution Pack (sold separately).

Why Choose Vacu-vials?

CHEMetrics Vacu-vials self-filling ampoules are a great way to test for dissolved substances in liquid. Unlike our visual test kits, the Vacu-vials test kit allows you to obtain an instrumental result using the CHEMetrics Direct-Redout Photometers or any spectrophotometer capable of accepting a 13m diameter round cell. When using equipment from another manufacturer, set the spectrophotometer to absorbance mode, select the wavelength specified by the Vacu-vials kit instructions, and follow the test procedure. The K-1503 Ammonia Kit is designed to accurately measure the levels of Ammonia in water from 0-7.00 ppm.

Safe and Reliable Results:

While traditional methods often require multiple steps and thorough preparation, these test kits allow you to obtain dependable results with a few simple steps. By simplifying the testing method, Vacuvials test kits reduce the potential for operator error. Additionally, each of the ampoules contained in the test kits is vacuum sealed which helps eliminate the problem of obtaining inaccurate results from stale or unstable reagents. These reagents are stored right in the tip of each ampoule and sealed in glass, thereby minimizing direct contact with the chemicals.

What's Included:

     -30 self-filling Ampoules

     -1 25 mL Sample Cup

     -Stabilizer Solutions

     -Ampoule Blank

     -1 mL Syringe

     -Instruction Manual

Method:

K-1513 uses the Direct Nesslerization Method. The Direct Nesslerization Method employs the Nessler reagent* which is commonly and reliably used to test for the presence of ammonia. This method works well for measuring ammonia concentrations in drinking water, clean surface water, good-quality nitrified wastewater effluent, and seawater. In some waters, calcium and magnesium concentrations can cause cloudiness of the reagent. Adding a few drops of stabilizer solution (Rochelle Salt) will prevent this cloudiness. References recommend distilling samples prior to analysis. Results are expressed as ppm (mg/L) ammonia-nitrogen, NH3-N.

Shelf-life: Although the Nessler reagent is stable, its high alkali content attacks the glass ampoule. The resulting precipitate interferes with color comparison. We recommend stocking quantities of CHEMets® and VACUettes® ampoules that will be used within twelve months. A two-month supply of Vacu-vials ampoules is suggested. Refrigeration will dramatically extend the shelf-life of these products.

*Contains mercury. Dispose of according to local, state or federal laws.

How to Use:

1. Fill the sample cup to the 25 mL mark with the sample to be tested. 2. Add 2 drops of the Stabilizer Solution. Stir to mix the contents of the cup.
3. Place the Vacu-vial ampoule tip-first into the sample cup. Snap the tip and the ampoule will automatically fill. 4. To mix the ampoule, tilt it from side to side, allowing the bubble to travel from end to end.
5. Dry the ampoule and wait 2 minutes for color development. 6. Insert the Vacu-vial ampoule into the photometer, flat end first, and obtain a reading in ppm.
