Why Choose CHEMetrics Titrets?

CHEMetrics Titrets self-filing reagent ampoules make it easy to perform quick, accurate titrations of water samples. The handheld titrettor that comes with the kit allows the user to easily and reliably control the flow of the solution being measured without the need to count drops or use burets or other equipment. This unique design allows you to perform a titration anywhere and achieve reliable results for a variety of substances.

Safe and Reliable Results

While traditional methods often require multiple steps and thorough preparation, these test kits allow you to obtain dependable results with a few simple steps. By simplifying the testing method, Tritrets test kits reduce the potential for operator error. Additionally, each of the ampoules contained in the test kits is vacuum sealed which helps eliminate the problem of obtaining inaccurate results from stale or unstable reagents. These reagents are stored right in the tip of each ampoule and sealed in glass, thereby minimizing direct contact with the chemicals.

What's included:

  • 30 self-filling Ampoules with valve assemblies
  • 1 25 mL Sample Cup
  • Indicator Solution
  • Neutralizer Solution
  • Titrettor
  • Instruction Manual

Method

The K-4710 Hydrate Alkalinity Kit was designed to accurately measure the alkalinity levels in water from 100-1000 ppm. K-4710 uses an acid titrant with pH indicator. Hydrate alkalinity is a component of total alkalinity. Boiler operators must maintain relatively high hydrate alkalinity levels when phosphate cycle treatments are used to ensure the formation of softer, more easily removable deposits. This specific test for hydrate alkalinity provides a more accurate value than the calculation method. For hydrate alkalinity, CHEMetrics developed a titrimetric method that uses a hydrochloric acid titrant with a phenolphthalein indicator. The endpoint of the titration occurs at pH 8.3. Barium chloride is added to the sample to prevent interference from carbonate and bicarbonate alkalinity. Results are expressed as ppm (mg/L) NaOH.

The alkalinity of water is a measurement of its buffering capacity. Alkalinity of natural waters is typically a combination of bicarbonate, carbonate, and hydroxide ions. Sewage and wastewaters usually exhibit higher alkalinities due to the presence of silicates and phosphates. Alkalinity inhibits corrosion in boiler and cooling waters. It is also measured as a means of controlling water and wastewater treatment processes or the quality of various process waters.

How to use:

Note: Images used in the following table show a total hardness and colors may differ from the ones shown. Read written instructions to know what color changes to expect from your substance.

1. Fill the sample cup to the 15 mL mark with the sample to be tested. 2. Add 8 drops of the Neutralizer Solution then 1 drop of Indicator Solution. Stir to mix the contents of the cup. The sample will turn pink. Wait 2-5 minutes or until the precipitate settles out.

3. Snap the tip of the ampoule at the black snap ring. 4. Lift the control bar and insert the Titret assembly into the Titrettor.

5. Hold the Titrettor with the sample pipe in the sample. Press the control bar firmly, but briefly, to pull in a small amount of sample. The contents will turn blue. 6. Press the control bar again to draw another small amount of sample into the ampoule.

7. Rock the entire assembly to mix the contents of the ampoule. Watch for a color change from blue to colorless. Repeat steps 6 and 7 until a permanent color change occurs. 8. When the color of the liquid in the ampoule changes to pale pink, remove the ampoule from the Titrettor. Hold the ampoule tip pointed upward and read the scale opposite the liquid level. Results are expressed in ppm (mg/Liter) sodium hydroxide (NaOH).
