K-9650 Sulfite Titrets Kit was designed to obtain Sulfite levels ranging from 50-500 ppm
Why Choose CHEMetrics Titrets?
CHEMetrics Titrets self-filing reagent ampoules make it easy to perform quick, accurate titrations of water samples. The handheld titrettor that comes with the kit allows the user to easily and reliably control the flow of the solution being measured without the need to count drops or use burets or other equipment. This unique design allows you to perform a titration anywhere and achieve reliable results for a variety of substances.
Safe and Reliable Results
While traditional methods often require multiple steps and thorough preparation, these test kits allow you to obtain dependable results with a few simple steps. By simplifying the testing method, Tritrets test kits reduce the potential for operator error. Additionally, each of the ampoules contained in the test kits is vacuum sealed which helps eliminate the problem of obtaining inaccurate results from stale or unstable reagents. These reagents are stored right in the tip of each ampoule and sealed in glass, thereby minimizing direct contact with the chemicals.
Sulfite is not usually present in surface waters. If sulfite is discharged in effluents or from domestic wastewaters, it readily oxidizes to form sulfate. Sodium sulfite is the most common form of sulfite and is an excellent reducing agent with applications as an oxygen scavenger. Sulfite concentrations in boiler and process waters must be monitored routinely to avoid overtreatment. Waste treatment plants that use sulfur dioxide to remove excess chlorine must monitor their effluents for sulfite.
Sulfites have been used for centuries to sanitize and preserve foods. They are used worldwide in the wine industry as antioxidant and antimicrobial agents. However, sulfites have been identified as causative agents in certain allergic reactions suffered by asthmatics. As a result, the FDA and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms have mandated that sulfites in foods and beverages, at levels of 10 ppm or higher, be identified on the label.
The K-9650 Sulfite Kit was designed to accurately measure the levels of Sulfite in water from 50-500 ppm. K-9650 uses the Iodometric Method. CHEMetrics' sulfite test kits employ the iodometric chemistry in which sulfite is titrated with iodide-iodate titrant in an acid solution using a starch indicator. Thiosulfate will titrate as sulfite. Sulfamic acid is added to the sample to prevent interference from nitrite. Results are expressed as ppm (mg/L) SO3.
How to use:
Note: Images used in the following table show a total hardness and colors may differ from the ones shown. Read written instructions to know what color changes to expect from your substance.
|1. Fill the sample cup to the 20 mL mark with the sample to be tested.||2. Add 5 drops of the Neutralizer Solution then 1 drop of Indicator Solution. Stir to mix the contents of the cup. Wait for 30 seconds.|
|3. Snap the tip of the ampoule at the black snap ring.||4. Lift the control bar and insert the Titret assembly into the Titrettor.|
|5. Hold the Titrettor with the sample pipe in the sample. Press the control bar firmly, but briefly, to pull in a small amount of sample. The contents will turn blue to very dark blue (black).||6. Press the control bar again to draw another small amount of sample into the ampoule.|
|7. Rock the entire assembly to mix the contents of the ampoule. Watch for a color change from blue to colorless. Repeat steps 6 and 7 until a permanent color change occurs.||8. When the color of the liquid in the ampoule changes to colorless, remove the ampoule from the Titrettor. Hold the ampoule tip pointed upward and read the scale opposite the liquid level. Results are expressed in ppm (mg/Liter) sulfite (SO3).|
