Why Choose CHEMetrics Chemets kits?
CHEMetrics Chemets self-filing reagent ampoules are a great way to test for dissolved substances in liquids. These visual test kits allow you to obtain results by measuring the color of the sample according to the color comparators provided with the kit. This unique method allows you to attain results quickly and accurately with minimal contact with potentially hazardous materials.
Safe and Reliable Results:
While traditional methods often require multiple steps and thorough preparation, these test kits allow you to obtain dependable results with a few simple steps. By simplifying the testing method, Chemets test kits reduce the potential for operator error. Additionally, each of the ampoules contained in the test kits is vacuum sealed which helps eliminate the problem of obtaining inaccurate results from stale or unstable reagents. These reagents are stored right in the tip of each ampoule and sealed in glass, thereby minimizing direct contact with the chemicals.
What's Included:

Method:
The K-1805 Carbohydrazide Kit was designed to accurately measure the levels of Carbohydrazide in water from 0-0.50 ppm. K-1805 uses the PDTS Method. The test kits employ PDTS chemistry. Carbohydrazide reduces ferric iron to the ferrous state, and the ferrous iron reacts with PDTS (3-(2-pyridyl)-5,6-bis(4-phenylsulfonic acid)-1,2,4-triazine disodium salt) to form a peach-pink colored complex in direct proportion to the carbohydrazide concentration. Test results are expressed as ppm (mg/L) carbohydrazide.
Carbohydrazide is added to boiler system water as an oxygen scavenger to control corrosion. It is a safer alternative to hydrazine, which is toxic. Carbohydrazide reacts with oxygen at low temperatures and pressures. The products of the reaction are volatile and do not contribute dissolved solids to the boiler water. Like hydrazine, carbohydrazide will also passivate metal surfaces.
1. Fill the sample cup to the 25 mL mark with the sample to be tested. Add 2 drops of Activator Solution. Stir to mix the contents of the cup. Wait 5 minutes. | 2. Place the ampoule tip-first into the sample cup. Snap the tip and the ampoule will automatically fill. |
3. To mix the ampoule, tilt it from side to side, allowing the bubble to travel from end to end. | 4. Dry the ampoule and wait 1 minute for color development. |
5. Place the ampoule into the center of the round comparator and hold it toward a source of light, viewing from the bottom. Rotate the comparator until the color below the ampoule shows the closest match. | 6. For higher concentrations, use the flat comparator. Place the ampoule between the color standards, moving it along the comparator until you can determine the closest match. |
