The K-1420D Ammonia Kit was designed to accurately measure the levels of Ammonia in water from 0-125 ppm and 0-2500 ppm. K-1420 D uses the Hydroxybenzyl Alcohol (HBA) Method. In the ammonia test method that employs the Hydroxybenzyl Alcohol chemistry, free ammonia reacts with hypochlorite to form monochloramine. Monochloramine reacts with HBA, in the presence of sodium nitroferricyanide, to form a green colored complex.  This test method measures the sum of free ammonia and monochloramine. Results are expressed in ppm (mg/L) ammonia-nitrogen, NH3-NThe Hydroxybenzyl Alcohol Method offers sensitivity similar to the Nesslerization Method and there is no generation of mercury-containing waste.

How to use:

  1. Fill the micro-test tube halfway with water sample
  2. Fill to the dilutor snapper cup to the specific mark with distilled water.Fill the sample cup to 25ml 

  3. Add 6 drops of Stabilizer Solution to the dilutor snapper cup.
  4. Add 6 drops of Catalyzer Solution to the dilutor snapper cup.
  5. Add 6 drops of Activator Solution to the dilutor snapper cup. 
  6. Cap the dilutor snapper cup and shake gently
  7. Ensure the VACUette tip is firmly attached to ampoule tip. Holding the VACUette horizontally, touch the tip to the contents of the micro-test tube.
  8. Place the VACUette between the vertical tip guides on the inside of the dilutor snapper cup. Snap the ampoule tip.
  9. Mix ampoule by inverting several timesTip the vacu-vial back and forth to mix
  10. Dry the ampoule, and wait 5 minutes for color development.
    Dry vacu-vial and then insert into the I-2019
  11. Obtain results by placing ampoule between color standards until best color match is found.
