R-9010 Silica

K-9010 Silica CHEMETS Kit is used to determine Silica levels from 0-1 ppm and 1-10 ppm.

Silica Information

$33.50

The K-9010 Silica Kit was designed to accurately measure the levels of Silica in water from 0-1 ppm and 1-10 ppm. K-9010 uses the Heteropoly Blue Method. CHEMetrics' test method determines molybdate reactive silica. The heteropoly blue chemistry is employed. Silica reacts with ammonium molybdate under acidic conditions to produce heteropoly acids, which are then reduced to form a blue color. Phosphate interferences are masked with the addition of citric acid. Results are expressed as ppm (mg/L) SiO2.

Silica (SiO2) is the oxide of silicon, the second most abundant element in the earth's crust. Silica is present as silicates in most natural waters. Typical concentrations lie between 1 and 30 mg/L. Higher concentrations may exist in brackish waters and brines. The silica content of water should be determined prior to its use in a variety of industrial applications. Silica can form a harmful scale on equipment and heat transfer surfaces, particularly steam turbine blades.

R-9010 Refill Package includes 30 tests and can be purchased separately.

What's Included:

     -30 Ampoules

     -25 mL Sample Cup

     -Comparators (Low and High Range)

     -Activator Solution

     -Neutralizer Solution

     -Instruction Manual

How to Use:

  1. Fill to the 15 mL mark in the sample cup with your water.Fill the sample cup to 25ml

  2. Add 10 drops of Activator Solution, cap the Sample Cup, and shake gently. Wait 4 minutes.
  3. Add 5 drops of Neutralizer Solution, cap the Sample Cup, and shake gently. Wait 1 minute.
  4. Snap the end of the ampoule in the water on the bottom/side of the 25 mL sample cup.Snap the tip of the ampoule on the bottom and side of the sample cup
  5. Mix the contents of the ampoule by tipping back and forth a few times.Tip the vacu-vial back and forth to mix
  6. Dry the vacu-vial and wait 2 minutes for color development.Dry vacu-vial and then insert into the I-2019
  7. Place ampoule, flat end first, into the comparator. Hold comparator up to light source and determine best color match.
