While traditional methods often require multiple steps and thorough preparation, these test kits allow you to obtain dependable results with a few simple steps. By simplifying the testing method, Chemets test kits reduce the potential for operator error. Additionally, each of the ampoules contained in the test kits is vacuum sealed which helps eliminate the problem of obtaining inaccurate results from stale or unstable reagents. These reagents are stored right in the tip of each ampoule and sealed in glass, thereby minimizing direct contact with the chemicals.
The K-8530 Phosphate Kit was designed to accurately measure the levels of Phosphate in water from 2-30 ppm. K-8530 uses the Vanadomolybdophosphoric Acid Method. In test kits employing the vanadomolybdophosphoric acid method, phosphate reacts with ammonium molybdate under acid conditions and in the presence of vanadium to form a yellow-colored product. Results are expressed as ppm (mg/L) PO4.
Phosphorus occurs naturally in rock formations in the earth's crust, usually as phosphate. High phosphate concentrations in surface waters may indicate fertilizer runoff, domestic waste discharge, or the presence of industrial effluents or detergents. Although phosphates from these sources are usually poly-phosphates or organically bound, all will degrade to ortho or reactive phosphates with time. Phosphate measurement is used to control scale and corrosion inhibitor levels in boilers and cooling towers. Both methods described below measure reactive phosphate, which will give a positive reaction prior to hydrolysis, and is usually termed ortho-phosphate.
How to Use:
|1. Fill the sample cup to the 25 mL mark with the sample to be tested.||2. Place the ampoule tip-first into the sample cup. Snap the tip and the ampoule will automatically fill.|
|3. To mix the ampoule, tilt it from side to side, allowing the bubble to travel from end to end.||4. Dry the ampoule and wait 5 minutes for color development.|
|5. Place the ampoule into the center of the round comparator and hold it toward a source of light, viewing from the bottom. Rotate the comparator until the color below the ampoule shows the closest match.||6. For higher concentrations, use the flat comparator. Place the ampoule between the color standards, moving it along the comparator until you can determine the closest match.|
