The K-8510C Phosphate Kit was designed to accurately measure the levels of Phosphate in water from 0-1200 ppm and 1200-12,000 ppm. K-8510C uses the Stannous Chloride Method. Test kits employing this chemistry utilize a stannous chloride reduction. Phosphate reacts with ammonium molybdate and is then reduced by stannous chloride to form a blue complex. Results are expressed as ppm (mg/L) PO4

Phosphorus occurs naturally in rock formations in the earth's crust, usually as phosphate. High phosphate concentrations in surface waters may indicate fertilizer runoff, domestic waste discharge, or the presence of industrial effluents or detergents. Although phosphates from these sources are usually poly-phosphates or organically bound, all will degrade to ortho or reactive phosphates with time

Phosphate measurement is used to control scale and corrosion inhibitor levels in boilers and cooling towers. Both methods described below measure reactive phosphate, which will give a positive reaction prior to hydrolysis, and is usually termed ortho-phosphate.

How to use:

  1. Fill to the dilutor snapper cup to the specified mark with distilled water.Fill the sample cup to 25ml  


  2. Add 2 drops Activator Solution, cap the cup, and shake gently.
  3. Fill the Micro-Test Tube half way with water sample.
  4. Ensure the VACUette tip is firmly attached to ampoule tip. Holding the VACUette horizontally, touch the tip to the contents of the micro-test tube.
  5. Pull the VACUette into a vertical position. A small portion of the collected sample should fall into the sleeve of the VACUette.
  6. Place the VACUette between the vertical tip guides on the inside of the dilutor snapper cup. Snap the ampoule tip.
  7. Mix ampoule by inverting several timesTip the vacu-vial back and forth to mix
  8. Dry the ampoule. Wait 2 minutes for color development.
    Dry vacu-vial and then insert into the I-2019
  9. Results should be obtained using the appropriate comparator.
