CHEMetrics Vacu-vials self-filling ampoules are a great way to test for dissolved substances in liquid. Unlike our visual test kits, the Vacu-vials test kit allows you to obtain an instrumental result using the CHEMetrics Direct-Redout Photometers or any spectrophotometer capable of accepting a 13m diameter round cell. When using equipment from another manufacturer, set the spectrophotometer to absorbance mode, select the wavelength specified by the Vacu-vials kit instructions, and follow the test procedure. The K-2523 Chlorine Kit is designed to accurately measure the levels of Chlorine in water from 0-7.00 ppm.
Safe and Reliable Results
While traditional methods often require multiple steps and thorough preparation, these test kits allow you to obtain dependable results with a few simple steps. By simplifying the testing method, Vacuvials test kits reduce the potential for operator error. Additionally, each of the ampoules contained in the test kits is vacuum sealed which helps eliminate the problem of obtaining inaccurate results from stale or unstable reagents. These reagents are stored right in the tip of each ampoule and sealed in glass, thereby minimizing direct contact with the chemicals.
The K-2523 uses the USEPA-accepted DPD methodology in which free chlorine reacts with DPD to form a pink product. When ammonia or amines are present, some of the chlorine may exist as combined chlorine. Combined chlorine will not interfere with the free chlorine results, provided the readings are taken at one minute. To determine total chlorine (the sum of free and combined), use the A-2500 Activator Solution (potassium iodide) supplied in the kit. Results are expressed as ppm (mg/L) Cl2.
The DPD method is also applicable to the direct determination of hypochlorite concentrations in various cleaning preparations and disinfectants prior to their dilution. DPD reacts with hypochlorite ions to form a pink color. Results are expressed as percent (%) NaOCl.
How to use:
|1. Fill the sample cup to the 25 mL mark with the sample to be tested.||2. Add 2 drops of the Stabilizer Solution. Stir to mix the contents of the cup.|
|3. Place the Vacu-vial ampoule tip-first into the sample cup. Snap the tip and the ampoule will automatically fill.||4. To mix the ampoule, tilt it from side to side, allowing the bubble to travel from end to end.|
|5. Dry the ampoule and wait 2 minutes for color development.||6. Insert the Vacu-vial ampoule into the photometer, flat end first, and obtain a reading in ppm.|
