Why Choose CHEMetrics Chemets kits?
CHEMetrics Chemets self-filing reagent ampoules are a great way to test for dissolved substances in liquids. These visual test kits allow you to obtain results by measuring the color of the sample according to the color comparators provided with the kit. This unique method allows you to attain results quickly and accurately with minimal contact with potentially hazardous materials.
Safe and Reliable Results:
While traditional methods often require multiple steps and thorough preparation, these test kits allow you to obtain dependable results with a few simple steps. By simplifying the testing method, Chemets test kits reduce the potential for operator error. Additionally, each of the ampoules contained in the test kits is vacuum sealed which helps eliminate the problem of obtaining inaccurate results from stale or unstable reagents. These reagents are stored right in the tip of each ampoule and sealed in glass, thereby minimizing direct contact with the chemicals.
What's Included:
-30 self-filling Ampoules -low and high-range comparators -1 25 mL Sample Cup -Reaction tube with lid -Instruction Manual |
Method:
The K-6904 Nitrate Kit was designed to accurately measure the levels of Nitrate in water from 0-4.5 ppm. K-6904 uses the Cadmium Reduction Method. Nitrate is reduced to nitrite using cadmium as the reducing agent. The resulting nitrite concentration is then determined colorimetrically. This method is applicable to drinking and surface waters, as well as domestic and industrial wastes. Nitrite will interfere with this test. Results are expressed as ppm (mg/L) NO3-N or NO3.
Nitrate is the most completely oxidized form of nitrogen. It is formed during the final stages of biological decomposition, either in wastewater treatment facilities or in natural water supplies. Low-level nitrate concentrations may be present in natural waters. However, a Maximum Contaminant Level of 10 ppm nitrate-nitrogen has been established for drinking water by the USEPA.
Shelf-life: The refill and color comparator contained in this kit have shelf-lives of 12 months
1. Fill the reaction tube to the 15 mL mark with the sample to be tested. Empty the contents of one Cadmium Foil pack into the reaction tube. | 2. Cap the reaction tube and shake it vigorously for exactly 3 minutes. Allow the sample to sit undisturbed for 2 minutes. |
3. Fill the sample cup to the 25 mL mark with the sample to be tested. Add 2 drops of Stabilizer Solution. Stir to mix the contents of the cup. | 4. Place the Vacu-vial ampoule tip-first into the sample cup. Snap the tip and the ampoule will automatically fill. |
5. To mix the ampoule, tilt it from side to side, allowing the bubble to travel from end to end. Dry the ampoule and wait 10 minutes for color development. | 6. For higher concentrations, use flat comparator. Place the ampoule between the color standards, moving it along the comparator until you can determine the closest match. |
