K-6913 Nitrate

K-6913 Nitrate Vacu-Vials Kit is used to determine Nitrate levels from 0-1.50 ppm.

Nitrate Information

This kit requires the use of a CHEMetrics Direct-Readout Photometer or a spectrophotometer capable of accepting a 13 mm diameter round cell. Instrument sold separately.

Why Choose Vacu-vials?

CHEMetrics Vacu-vials self-filling ampoules are a great way to test for dissolved substances in liquid. Unlike our visual test kits, the Vacu-vials test kit allows you to obtain an instrumental result using the CHEMetrics Direct-Redout Photometers or any spectrophotometer capable of accepting a 13m diameter round cell. When using equipment from another manufacturer, set the spectrophotometer to absorbance mode, select the wavelength specified by the Vacu-vials kit instructions, and follow the test procedure. The K-6913 Nitrate Kit was designed to accurately measure the levels of Nitrate in water from 0-1.50 ppm.

Safe and Reliable Results

While traditional methods often require multiple steps and thorough preparation, these test kits allow you to obtain dependable results with a few simple steps. By simplifying the testing method, Vacuvials test kits reduce the potential for operator error. Additionally, each of the ampoules contained in the test kits is vacuum sealed which helps eliminate the problem of obtaining inaccurate results from stale or unstable reagents. These reagents are stored right in the tip of each ampoule and sealed in glass, thereby minimizing direct contact with the chemicals.

What's included:

  • 30 self-filling Ampoules
  • 30 zinc foil packs
  • Acidifier Solution
  • reaction tube with cap
  • 25 mL Sample Cup
  • Ampoule Blank
  • Instruction Manual
  • MSDS

Method

The K-6913 uses the Zinc Reduction Method. Nitrate is reduced to nitrite using zinc as the reducing agent. The resulting nitrite concentration is then determined colorimetrically. This method is applicable to industrial wastewaters, drinking, and surface waters. These test kits can also be used for the analysis of seawater. This method will measure nitrate in the presence of low levels of nitrite (by difference). Results are expressed as ppm (mg/L) NO3-N.

Nitrate is the most completely oxidized form of nitrogen. It is formed during the final stages of biological decomposition, either in wastewater treatment facilities or in natural water supplies. Low-level nitrate concentrations may be present in natural waters. However, a Maximum Contaminant Level of 10 ppm nitrate-nitrogen has been established for drinking water by the USEPA.

How to use:

1. Fill the reaction tube to the 15 mL mark with the sample to be tested. 2. Empty the contents of one Zinc Foil Pack into the reaction tube. Cap the reaction tube and shake it vigorously for exactly 2 minutes.
3. Add 10 drops of Acidifier Solution to the empty 25 mL sample cup. 4. Pour the treated sample from the reaction tube into the sample cup, being careful not to transfer any solid material to the sample cup.
5. Place the Vacu-cial ampoule, tip first, into the sample cup. Snap the tip and the ampoule will fill automatically. 6. To mix the ampoule, tilt it from side to side allowing the bubble to travel from end to end.
7. Dry the ampoule and wait 10 minutes for color development. 8. Insert the Vacu-vial ampoule into the photometer, flat end first, and obtain a reading in ppm.
